"Approaches in Ecosocial Transition." That is the motto of the VIII Ecoencuentro to be held from June 16 to 18 in Almócita.
The aim of this edition is to be a springboard to mobilize wills and actions that promote change and social transformation. And to take on challenges as present as climate change, rural depopulation and the current economic model.
The deputy of Agrifood Promotion has congratulated the City Council of Almócita for "keeping in the provincial calendar this activity that invites us to reflect on the importance of sustainability and what is our role, both individually and as a group, to face climate change and all this will contribute to address the rural exodus.
In this sense, María Luisa Cruz has emphasized the variety and quality of the activities, as well as the level of the guests in the different proposals of the program that make this event one of the most significant of all those carried out in the province.
Finally, the deputy has highlighted the products of the gourmet brand 'Sabores Almería' as an example of sustainability for its commitment to local raw materials zero kilometer and highlighted the opportunity that the Ecoencuentro de Almócita represents for the degree of identification of the citizens of Almería with the gourmet brand of the province continues to grow.
In this regard, the mayor of Almócita, Francisco García, stressed that "what it is about is to raise awareness of the utmost importance of working towards sustainability at all levels". "Something for which we have been betting in Almócita for years in order to leave our children and grandchildren a world in conditions," he added.
García stated that "for this, respect for the environment and for people is fundamental and in Almócita we do it, moreover, based on the roots and knowledge of those who have preceded us". "Because it is from there that we can grow in harmony with the environment and continue to be a living people".
The mayor also pointed out that "in this VIII Ecoencuentro, therefore, we will focus on all those initiatives to care for and protect people and our great natural heritage, gaining in resilience and common welfare".
The president of the Asociación Trotamundos Animado, Francisco García Martínez, declared that "this 8th Ecoencuentro will be attended by numerous experts and initiatives in a broad program of activities centered on environmental and social awareness". "Our intention is to make known all these proposals to illuminate possibilities that lead us to an Economy of Social Good and greater empowerment of communities and people," he concluded.
Program
The program of the VIII Ecoencuentro of Almócita begins on Friday, June 16 with the screening of the documentary 'Alternatives. Building possible futures'. A work of Agustí Corominas and Juan del Río, with whom it is also planned to hold a colloquium throughout the Ecoencuentro, which analyzes several initiatives related to gardens, energy and growth communities located in different parts of Spain, including Almócita.
On Saturday, June 17, the official inauguration of the Ecoencuentro will be held by the environmental activist Manuel Pérez Sola. After that, the XII State Meeting of Social Coins, to be held in September in Almócita, will be presented, as well as several cooperatives for the eco-social transition: "Ecocambios Almócita", "Ecoherencia" and "Comunidad Energética de Almócita".
From 12:30 pm, the FAMP Laboratory for the Economy of Care will be held, with the intervention of Teresa Muela, Secretary General of the FAMP.
One hour later, Julio Gisbert, president of the Ibero-American association Time Banks will talk about 'Time for community care'.
At 16:30 the interventions are resumed, with representatives of MedSNAIL, U-Space and FAMP, about the project 'The agri-food system of the Andarax Valley as a pilot experience of the European project MedSNAIL'.An hour later, a talk between Perez Sola and the editor Jose Luis Campos, Dos Aguas publishing house, which has published a book in tribute to the first to a career of activism in defense of Natural Heritage.
This will be followed by a dynamic-talk on the social currency "El Café", born in Almócita and which can be used to pay for various products in this Ecoencuentro, and a talk by the writer Andrés Ortiz Tafur on 'Culture and rurality'.
The activities will continue on Sunday 18 with the ecomarket, the presentation of the Agroecological Network of Almeria, RAA, a presentation on the 'Use of seeds for forest restoration' and the exhibition of projects and collective local initiatives.
This program is complemented by the tasting of local craft beer and zero kilometer agro-ecological paellas and the celebration of several concerts in the "La Huerta" space of the Trotamundos Animado Association and in the ecomarket, as well as street theater with the play 'Little Red Riding Hood in the Alpujarras'.
